Having moved into our new flat almost a year ago now, things are really coming together. We have been very lucky to have a lot of furniture and home bits brought for us by family members, but I’m still trying to add some bits as I go. So I’m always on the look out for affordable homeware, and I’m willing to do a little DIY where needed!
So today I’m going to share one of my quick and affordable recent projects for beauty storage.
Most people would have looked past this box in Poundland. I mean it didn’t exactly inspire much, a beer holder, in magnolia with ugly writing. But it was the shape that caught my eye, and I thought with a lick of paint I could transform it into a chic beauty crate.
First I gave it a little sand, to take off that awful font and prime it for the paint.
We had a small pot of white paint knocking about in the shed, like most of us have, which was perfect for this project.
It took me an afternoon to pop on two coats of matte white and afterwards I was really happy with the results.
I am really happy I managed to transform it into a simple storage solution for larger beauty bits. It would be perfect as a hair product box to place next to your hairdryer. I have used mine for the products I reach for on a daily basis that were taking up a bit too much space on my dressing table.
Would you have looked past this box too? Or are you like me, always on the hunt for unexpected gems? And Have you completed any simple DIY’s recently, I’d love if your shared in the comments below!

It looks really cool, I really like it! You can make good use of it! You wouldn’t think that it is £1 storage once it is painted!

I know what you mean, in its original state it really wasn’t very nice – in fact I wouldn’t have even had it in the house with that horrible writing haha! But with a couple of coats of paint it looks like a different object!

I don’t think I would’ve ever thought to pick this up to be honest, you’ve managed to make it look really chic!

PS. I’m currently running a giveaway to win £50+ of Benefit makeup on michellegleaves.com
It was only because I was looking for something about this size that I actually picked it up, but I’m glad I did. It can be so easy to be put off my things like colour or the writing!

I absolutely love this! I’m definitely going to pop to poundland. I find it so difficult at times to get decor for my flat, I love to do DIY but I need the inspiration to achieve it.

Start small with the DIY Amy and you’ll get there, it’s tough decorating a new home, but if you have an overall feel for the place it gets easier the more little projects you pick up!
