For the longest time I have steered clear of dresses. I found dresses hard to find for my body type ad couldn’t pick a style I really loved. Recently though, I have been trying out different styles for fashion content on Instagram. Not only have I been experimenting more with colour than I ever have before, but also believe it or not, trying out a few dresses.
I have to say, my biggest inspiration for this new found love for dresses? Well, the weather of course. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that the weather as been unbearably hot in the UK recently. And despite all my linen trouser, light cotton shirt and barely-there sandal efforts, sometimes nothing hits the spot on a hot day quite like a dress.
The first style I tried out is a very floaty, light-as-air, baby pink dress from ASOS. I have been an avid ASOS shopper for many years and I always make the most of the sites Wishlist option. This drop waist, frilly number has been knocking about in my Wishlist for a couple of weeks, but I finally took the plunge & decided to order it. Here I have styled the dress with this fabulous cage style bag from Zara (you can get a closer look at it HERE), my beloved Zara leather slides and THESE beautiful Monki earrings. Now, I have to say, I don’t think this dress is the most flattering, but when it’s so hot out all I want is a really light, breezy dress to chuck on and this fits the bill perfectly.
A style of dress I didn’t think I would ever try out is this Casual Twill Mini Dress for ASOS Design. Normally I am not the type to go for mini dresses, but there was just something about this one that drew me to it. As I said I have been loving linen the summer, and twill is a fabric very similar in look and feel, so I loved the casual, relaxed, yet fashion forward look of this dress. I have styled this dress up with my Zara leather slides again (do I ever take them off?), a cute hair scarf and my most-loved Mango bag.
As my adventure into wearing dresses continues, I am in desperate need of some going out dresses. I have found that when it comes to evening wear, I have been really struggling in the heat to find the perfect outfit. Hopefully I can find some great styles and share them with you soon, but if you have any suggestions please drop them in the comments below.
