If there’s one makeup tip you try today, let it be this one. Glowing skin is one of the most sought after beauty trends – why? Well, there is no other sort cut quite like a dewy complexion to make you look healthy, younger and more beautiful. Sound too good to be true? Well, sometimes dewy foundations can wear off more easily because of its wetter texture, plus the fact that you need another foundation to get the look. So what if there was a way to turn any foundation, quickly and easily, into a glowing base?
If that sounds good to you, you’re in luck, because I’ve got one simple step that will let you achieve the most sought after beauty look, no matter what foundation you have at home already.
First thing’s first, get yourself a makeup sponge. I’m using the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, which is very similar to the Beauty Blender – but a makeup wedge or flat sponge will work just as well for this technique.
Wet the sponge so that is becomes more springy (technical term) and fluffy. Wetting the sponge will stop it soaking up too much product, allow you to use it to apply your foundation.
But here comes the magic…the oil! Grab yourself a multipurpose beauty oil that you can use on your face. The one I am using here is the Waitrose Pure Facial Oil, which is an absolute steal at £2.99 – it’s nothing fancy but it serves a purpose with this perfectly!
Now simply drop a couple of drops of this oil onto the sponge before using it to pick up your foundation and applying to the skin.
This way, no matter how matte your foundation formulation, your skin will be radiant and glowing from within. The oil (especially if it is a thin oil like the one I’m using) will blend with the oils already in your foundation and amp up that glow instantly. Slowly build layers for more coverage, for a flawless, glowing look.
I would say be careful not to use anymore than a couple of drops – a little goes a long way when you’re using oil and you don’t want to end up just looking greasy.
Another bonus of this method is that you can still apply powder over the top of your base, to lock it in place, and yet the oil still subtly shines through!
Let me know of you try this tip at home? I’d love to know if you like the finished look, let me know in the comments below!

This is really interesting as I always thought oils help to break down makeup. I’ll definitely be giving it a go as my skins looking a little lacklustre at the minute. Bring on the sunshine!

Some oils can break makeup up, you are very right, but because this is a light oil and you only use a small amount it works well!
Come on summer!
