On an everyday basis I reach for cream eyeshadows. Perfect as a base for powders and pigments, or simple smudged over the eyelid for a simple and no-fuss hit of colour. There’s lots and lots of different formulas and shades on the market from both high end and drugstore brands. And naturally, when building my collection of these easy, finger-friendly shades, I turned to the aisles of Boots and Superdrug.
The Maybelline Color Tattoos are now a staple of many makeup bags up and down the country. If you haven’t tried a cream shadow before then these are where I’d suggest to start.
The first shade I have, and probably the most famous of all the shades is On & On Bronze. The cool toned, gold bronze is one of the easiest cream shadows on the market. Perfect for almost all skin tones, stable enough to wear everyday and yet, still a shade that works beautifully for evening. I wear mine all over the lid, with a little brown liner in the waterline during the day, then smoke it out with a matte brown in the crease of the eye and black liner for the evening.
The next shade I went for was Pink Gold, another cool toned shade from the collection. Flecked with silver glitter, I keep this shade more for the evening or mix it with On & On Bronze for the day time. Although this isn’t my favourite shade from the collection, it works as a great base for other shadows and is handy to have in my collection.
The shade Eternal Gold is another shade I reserve more for the evenings, although I love it paired with a quick slick of mascara in the summer. The intense gold shines bright when worn all over the lid, so I’m a fan of popping just a touch of it in the centre of the lids or in the corner of the eye for a really highlighted look.
For the Autumn I’m seriously into the shade Metallic Pomegranate. There’s a little too much purple in there to be perfect, I would have preferred if it was more on the cranberry side. But for the price, this is a gorgeous colour for the colder months. I’m a big fan of this shade smoked all around the eye with black and brown matte shadows in the crease and heavy black kohl liner smudged under the eye for a sophisticated take on a rock chick eye.
The shade I reach for the least has to be Permanent Taupe. My only matte Colour Tattoo, Permanent Taupe can be a little patchy on application so I only use it when I have time to build up the intensity. It is however a lovely base for other matte shadows, with its purpley undertones and smooth finish.
So have you tried the Maybelline Color Tattoos? Were you impressed? Or do you splash a little more cash for cream shadows? Let me know in the comments.
