I’m not really one to talk about the process of blogging here on Made From Beauty (check out my Twitter for lots of that!) but today I thought I’d just share just ten short things I’ve learnt over the past seven months!
1.) Daylight is KING
In the past three months I’ve turned into one of those crazed bloggers who chases the daylight when taking photos. Although I have two box lights and a ring light, I have found that nothing beats good old day light when it comes to getting that perfect picture!
2.) Photos mean the world
I would love to be one of these bloggers who doesn’t mind all that much about their photos, or who simply don’t use them at all because taking great photos is…stressful! I have absolutely no training in photography, and to be perfectly honest, I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing! But, if I do manage to get myself a half-decent photo my views double, literally!
3.) People STILL don’t know what blogging is
I mentioned on Twitter a little while ago, I had to explain to my manager what a blog was. She really has no clue. But she’s no the only one I’ve had to explain it to!
4.) ‘Blogging is easy’
I’ve also come across the attitude that blogging doesn’t take all that long – well here’s the kicker, I spend about 2 hours on average on every single post. When you’re working 40 hour weeks and trying to get a post up everyday – boy are those 2 hours difficult to find! Also, it’s not a case of just putting a post together, chucking it out into the web and watching it thrive – if only it worked like that!
5.) I am the most unlikely blogger
Well, to my friends at least! We had a big get together recently and all my friends said how surprised they were to see I had a blog.
6.) Google is tough
Despite blogging nearly every day for seven days, I still do not come up in a ‘Made From Beauty’ search on Google, which is frustrating, but I guess something I have to work at. Also I have had my Google Adsense account totally disabled because I was click-bombed, great!
7.) Blogging is my passion
I will forever kick myself that I didn’t start my blog sooner. I sat around umming and ahhing about getting Made From Beauty started for about three years! I have loved and learnt so much in the past few months like never before.
8.) Blogging can be isolating
When you’re the only one at a party thinking about all the blog work you should be doing, or the one not getting an in-joke on Twitter, blogging can seem a little isolating. I know a lot of other bloggers have spoken about feeling a little out of the clique and I agree that it can be hard to make in-roads with strangers on the internet, as well as have the confidence to approach other bloggers.
9.) All the friends
As much as blogging can seem a little isolating sometimes, equally I have made friends along the way as well! It kind of struck me the other day at the Southampton Bloggers Meetup – these are all people who are into the same things as me (something I’ve never had before, none of my school or uni friends care about beauty or blogging really). It’s a lovely feeling and some of the people I have met will hopefully be friends for many years to come!
10.) There’s still an awfully long way to go
I’m trying to create great content and push Made From Beauty to the highest standard I can possibly make it, so boy is there a long way to go! Stick around to see what happens! It would mean the world!
Do you blog? If so, leave me a comment letting me know one thing you’ve learnt too! Maybe we’ve had similar experiences and challenges?

Such a good post, and I found myself agreeing with everything! Blogging definitely isn’t easy and people need to stop thinking it is as a lot of time and effort goes into posts!

Thank you Olivia! They are things that I think most bloggers can agree with!

It is!
Thank you for your comment! x
This was such a cute post, so relatable. Im crazy about natural light, but grey days give better light than really sunny days, I find.

I agree with all of your points. Tbh I’ve only been blogging since earlier this year and I still get a bit frustrated when I don’t get any comments/not many views on my page after I’ve worked so hard on the post. It all comes in time though I suppose xx

It can get frustrating, I know what you mean! But all in time…or so I’m told!

Totally agree with you, especially when you work full time, blogging is even harder. Basically you only have a few hours during the week to take photos without lights-lucky that you have some light (I don’t have any as I am a newb). Also it sucks that you have to explain some people what blogging is… I so know the struggle and I get zero support from the people I know! How great is that? Needless to say, another great post :) xx

I started a new job and its long hours and physically demanding – I’ve never been so tired in my life haha! It’s horrible when you see your blog suffer when life doesn’t go to plan!
The winter is going to be even worse for photos!
Keep going, your blog is brilliant, and you’ll soon show the people in your life who haven’t supported you!
All the best xx
Congrats on your job and good luck! It is hard, as every morning I have to get up around 6am and when I am back home it is like 7pm, I so know the struggle. xx
I LOVE this post! I am a new blogger and can relate/agree with all of these points. I have a full-time job during the summer and then back to school this fall, so it is a lot of work. That maintenance and content takes so much, but it’s also so rewarding too. I’ve learned so much from blogging!!

I can soooo relate to number 8, working over 40 hours a week trying to find time to write a post and that you simply cannot write a post quickly!! Xx
