Boots Anti Build-Up Removal ShampooAs someone with thick, curly hair I like to load my hair up on oils and moisturising products to keep the fizz at bay and my locks maintained. This is all great, but sometimes, after all those oily, silicone-y products, my hair needs a really good deep clean.

I am also guilty of using lots of dry shampoo as I’m trying to cut down on the amount of times a week I wash my hair. Dry shampoo, though the god send it is, can really cause build up in the hair, giving it that weighed down, almost sick feeling. I wanted something to get in there and really scrub my hair up!

Short of using Fairy Liquid, I wasn’t having much luck finding the product I really wanted. And after wanting to try out the well reviewed Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo for a while, but not being willing to part with nearly £20 a bottle (I know!) the hunt was on for a good clarifying shampoo to get the build up as a good price.

Whilst queuing in Boots the other day, this rather unglamorous bottle caught my attention. Hang on, that’s called Build Up Removal Expert Shampoo! That’s what I was looking for, and at under a fiver it was at the price point I wanted. I snapped it up!

The first was was like a breath of fresh air, my hair felt light and clean, oh so clean! I was actually a little embarrassed, had my hair not been actually clean in years? There was also something so satisfying about using my rich conditioner afterwards, like it could really get to each strand. My hair was so easy to style afterwards and was so soft.

Now a little cautionary tale about clarifying shampoos, if you have coloured hair, approach with caution as they can be pretty stripping. Also if you have oily hair, try not to get hooked, although after each wash your hair will be so clean, things could get a little too dry if your using them everyday/every other day. I would stay stick to once every two weeks, like me, to keep hair manageable, soft and free of product build up.

So have you tried a clarifying shampoo? If so let me know the comments!
