As a blogger, sometimes you buy a makeup item, and it works so seamlessly into your makeup bag, you forget to share it with your readers. Well, that’s what happened to me at least with the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipsticks.
I’ve had three of these lipsticks for a while now, and I’ve only just made my way round to photographing them. The creamy matte formula has become a bit of an everyday staple for my lip routine, I had totally forgotten to pop a post up on them.
That’s not to say they aren’t special. If anything, these lipsticks are actually something really really special in my books. For a drugstore brand, Maybelline have brought us the most fantastic formulation for the best possible price.
In the UK especially, it had been very hard to find a long wearing, kick ass, matte lipstick without going to MAC. And hey, I love MAC as much as the next beauty blogger, but I’ve always craved a great matte lipstick from the highstreet.
Unlike, the few matte formulations available from other drugstore brands, the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes are creamy, easy to wear, and dreamy to apply. There’s no dragging, or catching on dry patches. There’s no uneven wear, or blotchy application – there’s just pure, highly pigmented, matte perfection.
The shades I’ve tried from the range are Craving Coral; a beautiful red/orange that perks up the complexion and makes a statement, Mesmerizing Magenta; a bright pink that’s perfect for the evening with lots of lashings of mascara or to set off a tan perfectly in the summer, and Divine Wine; the colour everyone’s talking about – you know the one, Autumn in a lipstick.
Overall I’m hugely impressed with the formula, creamy and comfortable, yet matte and stylish at the same time. Work the lipsticks little by little into to lips, creating two layers for a matte pout that will last all day, no touch ups, no fuss.
In the UK, we’ve been a little let down with the shade selection, with some of the nude shades of the collection proving very difficult to get hold of. But really, that’s ok with me, when I go for a matte lip, it’s usually in a bright colour as they are generally easier to manage and pack more punch.
I’m not going to say the word ‘dupe’ here, but I would say these lipsticks are pretty similar to the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipsticks. So if you’ve been wanting to try out Charlottes hugely hyped formula, if suggest giving these a whirl first.
At this price point, Maybelline are truly bringing a ground breaking formula to the table. So have you tried the Creamy Matte Lipsticks? If so, what shades did you pick up? And were you as impressed as I was? Let me know in the comments below.

I’d kind of completely forgotten about these so I’m really pleased to have come across your review and you’ve made them go straight to the top of my wishlist! I always steer away from matte formulas as they’re just too much work to apply, but the creamy formula of these sounds pretty perfect. The colours you picked all look beautiful and I definitely agree about matte needing to be a bold colour :)

Ooh, these look brilliant! I obviously managed to completely miss them when I went to Boots on the hunt for some new lipsticks the other day, I feel like I need to go back and check these out too now!

They might have been on their own little stand as they are pretty new, my Boots put them right near the door and I almost walked right past them!

Your blog layout and photography are amazing! Do you use any lighting? Lovely post :)

Thank you so much sweet! I didn’t use any lighting in this post as I find natural daylight the best, but I do have 2 box lights and a ring light that I’ll use when I need to :)

Are they really similar to CT matte revolution lipsticks?? because if so, I’m completely hooked and I definitely need them in my life!!! :) xx

I think they are pretty similar in formula. There’s no doubt the CT colours are more beautiful, but I’d say these are definitely along the same lines as the Matte Revolution lipsticks :)
