Clearasil are a brand I haven’t given a second thought to in about ten years. For almost a decade, I’d written their skincare off and happily so.
Mum’s if you’re reading – please think twice before handing your teenagers Clearasil. Their products are often high in alcohol and full of those ‘exfoliating’ beads that tare their skin up. (Although, if it works for you…)
So after my complete dislike of the brand (mainly routed in the fact that their products often make young teens skin worse and yet are marketed as a wonder cure) you might be surprised that I picked these Daily Clear Superfruits Refreshing Pads up…
Well if you read my Blogger Recommended Skincare post, you’ll know I’m a bit of a sheep and love to try out all the latest products my favourite blogger is talking about. One very well known, well respected, skincare blogger recommended these to her bloggers and well – I had to give them a go.
Since that initial recommendation, I have seen a lot of people raving about this little point of pads so I thought it was about time I stuck my oar in!
Packaging first: Being Clearasil and being so affordable, I wasn’t expecting anything flashy, so the plastic pot does the job nicely. The lid is secure, so good for traveling but boy is it ugly! This is definitely one to keep in a drawer and not onto of the vanity.
Ingredients: The main reason for the recommendation was the products high concentration of Salicylic Acid. If you’re a regular around Made From Beauty, you’ll know I love a bit of acid in my skincare routine, so seeing this blemish fighting ingredient as the second one listed was a bit plus.
Ease of use: I had been after the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads for a while and this Clearasil number was so similar, with its easy-peasy textured pads I couldn’t wait to start using it. Simply swipe over the face up and down, flip over and go back and forth, then dispose of.
Performance: Here’s where it all went horribly wrong.
The first time I used the Daily Clear Superfruits Refreshing Pads I was really shocked with how bad they smelt. They smelt to me like cleaning fluid, which, I’ll be honest, didn’t fill me with much hope.
After two weeks of using the pads I had to give up. I used them three times a week (the same amount I use my Alpha H Liquid Gold or Pixi Glow Tonic) yet by the end of the second week I actually had a little cry using these. The smell was so strong it made my eyes water and my skin went bright red – really not good.
But even if I could get past the smell and the redness, heres the thing; for a spot fighting product – this actually gave me spots!
I had no blemishes at the start of the two weeks, and changed nothing else in my skincare or makeup and within four days my whole face had come out in loads of little whiteheads.
I saw no improvement in skin quality, clarity, radiance or smoothness.
So needless to say, I packed these away and forgot about them. Then, for good measure, thought I’d give them a whirl again before I posted this…
Let’s just say, there’s now one very spotty Sam writing away on her laptop.
So have you tried the Clearasil Daily Clear Superfruits Refreshing Pads? I’d love to know what you thought, let me know in the comments below! Or perhaps you’ve had a good experience with the Clearasil skincare – I’d love to hear from you!

Ew, these sounds awful! Such a good idea, if you’re in a rush you can wipe these across your face but not if you’re gonna look like a 14 year old male…

I use them, although not three times a week and they work a charm for me. I guess the problems you experienced could be linked to the high content of alcohol included, that can be too much for sensitive skin.
