Gifted Treatment

I have never been completely happy with my lips. I know we’re always our worst critics; but in my eyes my natural lips were always too small for my face. Couple this with the fact that I had a very uneven lip line (my upper lip sloped down more on my right side than my left), I have wanted to change them for a while. In the back of my mind, I have been considering dermal filler treatments for a while, but just never knew how to find the right doctor or which clinic.

So when an email came into my inbox introducing Dr Charlotte D-Souza of White Swan Aesthetics in Wimbledon, I knew the time was right to look further into the treatment.

One of the most important things for me when considering the treatment was that it had to be performed by a medical professional with years of experience. We’ve all seen horror stories online of fillers & botox going wrong, and after speaking to Dr D-Souza, I found out there’s actually a lot more that could go wrong than just ending up with a botched ‘duck lips’ appearance. From injections into blood vessels to allergic reactions & extensive bruising – I cannot stress the importance of going to a medical professional you trust!

From the word go I felt completely at ease with Dr Charlotte D-Souza. She qualified as a doctor in 2010 & has undertaken advanced training in Botox and dermal fillers, as well as Profhilo skin-remodelling training. She now works solely in Aesthetic Medicine & has completed a Level 7 (Masters equivalent) degree in Aesthetics at Harley Academy, London. Not only did her qualifications tick all the right boxes for me, but she was also brilliant in person too.

I went into my consult without any experience of fillers or cosmetic treatments & yet she put my mind at ease straight away. Dr D-Souza was confident, professional & (maybe her best quality) honest. She didn’t hide the fact that the treatment was more painful & uncomfortable than a lot of potential patients were often led to believe. She also understood were I was most unhappy with my lips & explained that we would go little – by – little so I could achieve the best result of a natural looking enhancement. She also explained that the filler she would be using was made from hyaluronic acid (HA). That HA occurs naturally in connective tissue throughout the body, which is why clients do not need allergy testing before having the treatment.

The biggest area I wanted to change was my top lip. For the longest time I had been very self conscious of my smile because my top lip almost curled under when I laughed. So Dr Charlotte D-Souza first worked on this, before adding a little volume in my lower lip. I was a little shocked by how painful the procedure was; from what I had seen online I thought it would be a walk in the park. It was bearable because of the numbing cream Dr D-Souza applied & because the treatment was very quick.

Immediately after the injections I had quite a bit of swelling which continued for the next week. I also had a little bit of light bruising on my top lip, but nothing that couldn’t be covered with lipstick. Now, nearly 2 weeks on, I couldn’t be happier with the results. The treatment has given me such a natural enhancement, a lot of friends & family didn’t even realise I had had anything done. It’s made such a huge difference to me, from feeling more confident without makeup to also feeling excited about lip products again.
