There has been an awful lot of talk about the new St. Tropez in Shower Gradual Tan Lotion in the beauty world. Fake tan is notoriously a bit of a fuss! Exfoliating, moisturising, tanning mitts, separate tans for your face and body, streaks, building up layers…the list of fake tan headaches go on and on. So the idea of a tan you can apply in the shower – now that sounds like something I could sign up to!
The buzz around this product has been one of the biggest we’ve seen in the beauty world for a long time, and rightfully so! A new, completely brand spanking new beauty innovation!
I’ve waiting a while for the talk to quiet down a little, and now it’s about time I give you my thoughts – the good, the bad and the ugly.
So I think we’re all agreed that an in-shower tan sounds pretty good. But is it as simple as it sounds? Let’s run through the steps quickly to see what’s what:
1.) Shower like normal, wash the body, wash hair. – I would recommend making sure you don’t use a shower oil, otherwise the tan might not take.
2.) Turn the water off or stand out of the shower flow. – I don’t like where this is going…
3.) Apply the tan all over in circular motions.
4.) Wash palms of hands. – Wait, I turned the water off?
5.) Wait for tan to develop for three minutes. – Three minuets?! How long is three minutes? I’m in the shower!
6.) Wash off tan and pat skin dry.
So as you can see, I have a couple of gripes with this product, such a shame considering my excitement about it!
Standing out of the water flow whilst you apply and wait for the tan to develop can be pretty chilly. It’s not so bad at this time of year, but give it a couple of months and the temperatures in England will be dropping. So maybe not a product to be used all year round?
And then there’s the issue of time, I mean..three minutes? Who has a clock in their bathroom? Hands up…not many of us. I know I don’t. There’s been a couple of suggestions for this hiccup floating around the beauty world. The best one I’ve heard so far is to listen to music whilst in the shower. As most pop songs today are about three minutes, it’s a pretty good way of timing things.
So what about the results? Well as you would have gathered from the product name, it’s a gradual tan, so don’t expect any crazy results upon first application. I used this product everyday for about a week and found the colour to build up nicely. It topped up the tan I already had nicely and the colour was natural but noticeable just like the other St. Tropez products on the market.
One last issue though. I wish it came in a larger size! As I said, I used it for almost a week and I’m sad to say I was out of it in five full body applications.
On the plus side the product itself doesn’t have a smell, and when I got out of the shower there was no visible residue or smell on my skin. As the tan developed there was a slight biscuity smell (like most traditional fake tans) detectable if you gave me a good sniff, but nothing crazy offensive, I can live with that!
So a bit of a mixed bag really, I’m still not sure what to make of it. Genius product development but maybe with a few issues to iron out. I think give St. Tropez a couple of years and we’ll see this product reformulated to a t!
Have you tried the St. Tropez in Shower Gradual Tan Lotion? Did you come across any of the issues I did, or has this been the real wonder product we were all waiting for for you? Let me know in the comments below!
