I’m back again with another summer nail polish shade. If you saw my Essie Fiji post, you’ll know I’m a big fan of shades that really enhance a tan and make your hands look extra bronze at this time of year.
So when I saw this Models Own shade; Mint Icing, I couldn’t pass it up.
Despite being a complete nail polish addict, I’ve never actually used any Models Own polishes. So I was quite excited to try out the formula for the first time.
Mint Icing is part of Models Own ‘Icing Collection’ a mash up of five beautiful pastel shades released for Spring 2015, and even come in adorable limited edition frosted glass packaging.
The colour is a gorgeous mint green with a touch of blue. It enhanced the tan on my hands beautifully, making them appear healthier and cuter. The shade really reminds me of the Tiffany blue and with just a tiny bit more blue would have really resembled the famous jewelers luxurious boxes. I’m thinking for my next manicure with this shade I might top it with my OPI Matte Top Coat to get the full Tiffany effect.
I was surprised to find that the brush wasn’t curved like a lot of nail polishes on the market. I get that this is more in line with professional polishes used in salons, but I must admit it took me a while to get used to the old style applicator.
I also wasn’t wowed by the formula, which was a bit of a let down, considering I’ve heard a lot of good things about the brand. It applied a little streaky as it was thinner than other formulas I’ve used and took four coats to build up the colour.
Those grumbles about the formula aside, I must say it lasted very well on my nails. Maybe because I had taken the time to build up thin coats, or there’s something special about this polish, but it lasted just over a week on my nails with minimal chipping – pretty good going!
Have you tried any Models Own polishes? I’d love to know your favourite shades, let me know in the comments below!
