In the summer we all seem to err towards lighter coverage, thinner bases and a dewier finish. So why would I be suggesting the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation for the warmer days?
Well, hear me out…Although the Luminous Silk Foundation is a full coverage, heavy formula there’s a way I’ve found it works perfectly for the summer sun.
It mainly came about because my Luminous Silk is in my ‘tan’ shade, ready for me to wear to big events when I’ve got my fake tan on. I originally brought the foundation for my graduation, but honestly hadn’t been reaching for it all that often since then.
Then, when I added MAC Fix+ into the mix, everything changed!
One of the main drawbacks of this product was that I found it a little too thick to blend, especially if my skin was slightly drier than normal. So when my winter foundations stopped matching me, I decided to spray a little Fix+ onto my brush, just to help with the blending…it was a ‘lightbulb’ moment makeup wise!
Since then I’ve been taking just one pump of the Luminous Silk, spraying my brush heavily with Fix+ and buffing it onto the skin that way.
With one pump the foundation gives me enough coverage for day, the Fix+ adds the glycerin to give everything a bit more slip and adds more of a glow to the demi-matte formula.
The other plus side of using these products together is that they are both extremely long lasting – just what you need for a summers day.
I also usually use the Real Techniques Buffing Brush for my foundation application, and although I absolutely love that brush, it is more designed for giving a higher coverage.
I don’t own another specifically designed foundation brush, so I turned to my powder and blush brushes for something a little more…bendy (yep that’s a technical term!)
And I must say, I’m hooked on using this Eco Tools Powder Brush from their mini set. It buffs the product onto the skin easily and quickly all whilst allowing a light coverage.
I’m glad I’ve mixed things up a bit, the results are just what I was after and it proves you don’t always have to buy a separate lighter base for summer.
But if you are in the market for a lighter base, I’ve still been loving the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue I reviewed earlier this week (you can check that post out here).
Let me know in the comments below what you summer foundation routine is. Did you think of using the same technique as me? Or have you got a summer only base product you’re loving?

I don’t even wear BB cream in the summer, I just hate having that feeling of foundation sitting on top of my skin! I would have never expected this foundation to be suitable for the hot weather

I know what you mean! I’ve been trying this out for a while and really loving it! Thank you for commenting! x
i’ve been wanting to try this foundation out for ages! i atually find that when i want a really light base i reach for a high coverage foundation, cause then i apply so little of it (whereas with bb cream it’s probably be smearing my whole face in the stuff!) x

Reblogged this on Sharon's Blog.
I have always wanted to give the Luminous Silk a go but the formula seems to be a bit heavy and if there’s one thing I hate to death is a heavy foundation! I really like the tip you mentioned, can use it with other foundations I have which I no longer love! :-)

As a foundation on its own I’ve found it a little heavy yeah! I’m glad you like the tip, definitely try it out! Thank you for commenting! x
