I am on the hunt for a budget BB cream, or tinted moisturiser, just something a little lighter than a foundation. After making some really positive changes in my life, I am seeing a whole host of benefits, my mood, my weight and overall, huge benefits to the look and texture of my skin. I am currently blemish free! Phew, that felt good to write! I do still have a bit of light scaring and redness on my chin, but really nothing too bad. So I have been after something to wear with a bit of concealer, especially during the working week.
The idea of a BB Cream fills me with excitement, a light base with slight coverage, all wrapped up in a skincare type of formula – dreamy! But I probably made a bit of a mistake trying out a drugstore offering before a higher end option, as my first dabble into this new formula hasn’t ended well.
I picked up the Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream Skin Perfector recently whilst on my travels in Boots. It seemed to promise all the things I was looking for; light coverage, a rich, balmy texture and a nice colour (although I will say that ‘Light’, ‘Light Medium’ and ‘Medium’ really isn’t a massive selection!).
These were my thoughts in the store, under those pesky fluorescent lights, all wrapped up thinking about how great my skin looked. I plonked the tube down so gleefully at the checkout I must have scared the poor guy serving me, I wanted to say very loudly, “Yes that is all thank you, I don’t need to wear foundation anymore!”
But, moving on from my new found skin confidence, in the short walk from Boots to my dressing table (it really is a short walk I can see into the store from my bedroom), the BB cream had changed.
Now I am pretty sure it must have changed because suddenly it didn’t seem to work. The colour came across so white in natural light, it washed me out so much but the worse thing was still to come. After popping it on my skin, despite feeling balmy and moisturizing during application, I really wasn’t impressed with the finish. Instead of looking glowing it just seemed greasy. I felt like I was wearing a layer of grease on top of a light coverage foundation. So after applying lots and lots of powder to hide the greasiness, I was left with a heavy face of cakey makeup – not exactly what you want when trying out a BB cream.
So after a few hours wear, I checked my base, and I’m sorry to say the greasiness had come back. The oils in the cream hadn’t formed into a nice even glow, but had started to break down my base and just left me with an uneven, patchy finish. I was so disappointed with this product, trying it out on my hand I thought it was a lovely texture but this really didn’t translate onto the skin.
Let me know in the comments below if there’s a BB cream you could recommend to me!

Sorry Alexis! Despite the oily issue it was quite a nice base!
