Clinique Palette Overview

My Clinique Colour Surge Eye Shadow Trio palette has probably seen better days. It was my first high-end palette; I bought it about five years ago

I vividly remember bringing it home; I was as delicate with it as a baby. I was amazed at the quality of shadows and in complete awe of the brand. Back then there wasn’t anything like the L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Mono Eyeshadows or the Maybelline Colour Tattoos available on the high street. Formulas at the drugstore might have come on leaps and bounds in the last five years but this Clinique palette still remains a firm favourite.

In my first year of owning this palette I wore it regularly to college (yes I am that young) and now, with a full time job, I find that it actually makes a great everyday staple.

It is surprising how much you can achieve with a three-shadow palette; it’s a lot more than it seems!

Here I have applied the shadows as you would expect them to be applied. I swept the cooler shade of Daybreak across my whole lid with a little Strawberry Fudge in the crease and Chocolate Chip in the outer corner. For a little added definition I have used Strawberry Fudge and Chocolate Chip on the bottom lashline.

There are lots of other looks you can conjure up out of this palette though. I enjoy wearing Strawberry Fudge all across my lids with Chocolate Chip in the crease for more of a smoky eye look. Daybreak looks great on its own, or with liquid liner. The list goes on!

Another great thing about this palette is that the Daybreak shade doubles up as one of the most intense highlighting powders I own. Admittedly it’s not as finely milled as something like Mary-Lou Maniser, it is of course still an eye shadow! It gives the most beautiful highlights to the tops if the cheek bones, the cupids bow, or the inner corner of the eye. I would suggest it as an evening highlighter, purely because it’s a little on the chunky side, but great if you’re in a bit of a bind.

Next in the palette is Strawberry Fudge; not my favourite shadow of all time, but a great bronze with pink undertones. It is a flattering color, making brown or green eyes pop, but you must be careful not to blend it to far up to the brow bone or otherwise you’ll just have to look like you have pink eyes!

Now on to the final palette in the collection,; Chocolate Chip is the real star of the show in my eyes. I love to wear a brown smoky eye, during the day or in the evening, and was struggling to find a matte brown that wasn’t too red for the outer V of the eye. That’s when I remembered Chocolate Chip; it is dark enough to add real drama and yet can be paired with the rest of the shadows as part of an every day look!

Now here’s the kicker,; Chocolate Chip isn’t available any more! Clinique stupidly stopped making it about one year ago now. So in a minor panic, I bought two other Clinique eye shadow palettes from eBay, just to have more Chocolate Chip!

Please let me know in the comments below if you know where I can get a similar shade with good blendability! Chocolate Chip is seriously one of my most loved eye shadows. If you’re in your make up archives give it another shot. You will not be disappointed.
