Blush and I have a funny relationship. I’m not all that fussed by it, it’s not that I don’t like it, I think a great blush can really complete a makeup look. But let’s put it this way: you won’t find me lusting after the latest blush release from Chanel, Hourglass or even Revlon. It’s just not the sort of product that gets my heart racing…
That being said, blush can be quite important. If I sport a bold lip, for instance, a little pick me up on the cheeks stops the look from looking too stark, I’m never adverse to a little perking up of the complexion.
As you may have gathered from yesterday’s primer post, I’m not too fond of a matte base, I love dewy, glowing skin that lasts all day – one mean feat to achieve.
My answer to dull skin in need of a little pop of colour: cream blush.
In the last few months I have probably worn more cream blush than you can shake a stick at. There’s something magical that appears after a few taps and blends with the fingers; subtle, warming, dewy colour that brings the face to life.
Here’s my run down of my favourite cream blushers:
First up, the longest lasting formula comes from Benefit in the form of their posietint. After being a fan of the original benetint for a while, I was quite excited when the brand released this pink version of the stain, and that was when I got this deluxe sample. Not strictly a cream blush, posietint comes in a pot with a little brush to allow on point application. You have to work quickly to get the most natural finish with this product, I either apply the product to my fingertips before patting on or apply a small amount to a synthetic brush, such as the Real Techniques Stippling Brush, to maximise blendability. Thicker than the original benefit stain, posietint works very well over makeup, or you can sweep your foundation brush over the top of it to create a seamless flush of milky pink.
Next up is the Bourjois Cream Blush in 03 Rose Tender, a more standard cream blush formula with a great finish. My love for this product was completely unexpected, after receiving it in a Latest In Beauty box a little while ago I forgot all about it until recently. The colour has picked up a little on the peach side when photographed, but I would say this shade is a warm pink in real life. Drying to a semi-matte finish, it provides one of the most natural finishes out of any cream blush I have tried.
Then onto my favourite cream blushers, the Max Factor Miracle Touch Creamy Blushers. I first brought the shade Soft Pink in the summer and used a hell of a lot of it. It’s a soft Barbie pink that really pops when worn with a tan, however I have been making the colour work equally as well with a light hand and bronzer. The next shade I picked up was a different choice for me; Soft Copper is, as it’s named, a soft coppery-peachy shade. My favourite way to wear this is as a blush/bronzer hybrid on tanned skin. The finish of these blushers is like no other I have ever tried, as they don’t really dry. This may not be great for their staying power, but its pretty good for achieving a dewy base. They hold their glowing, creamy texture well for about six hours (in the cooler months) on my skin, which is good with me.
Let me know in the comments below if you like to wear creamy blushers. I know cream blush becomes pretty popular in the warmer months, but would you take cream blushers for a spin all year round like me?
