Berry tones are some of my favorite colours to wear in the colder months. At Christmas time its all about the straight up reds, warm reds, blue reds, even gloss reds, but for everyday wear throughout the winter plummy shades are my go to.
First up is one of the Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish Matte Lipsticks in the colour 107 (side note: sort out your shade names Rimmel/Kate!) this creamy formula has a surprising long lasting finish and is probably one of the easiest place to start if you are looking at trying out a berry shade. The closest to a true red out of my lineup, I love this layered onto the lips for a full on pout or simple blotted into the lips for a hint of tint. I am wearing this one here:
Next up is quite a controversial new release to the beauty world; Rimmel’s Provocalips 16HR Kissproof Lip Colour in Kiss Fatal. This is a dual ended product, one side housing the matte liquid lipstick, the other a glossy topcoat to add moisture and seal in the colour. I am still undecided about this formula; it sure is long lasting but has on occasion started to bunch up on my lips after the glossy topcoat has worn away. I must admit, I am not in love with this shade, I know where Rimmel was trying to go with this one, but I’m not sure they have hit the nail on the head. There is a hint of greyish brown to Kiss Fatal that holds this product back from being amazing, considering its longevity. I would say this one is great if you want only a few hours of untouchable wear time, you can eat, drink and kiss your way through an afternoon without this baby budging…just make sure you have some olive oil on hand to remove it at the end of the day.
Another relatively new release to the beauty world is one of the Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils in Berry Much. Firstly, shout out to Maybelline for the great shade name, very cute, but wow are these formulas good. Likened to the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Crayons, this is a drugstore offering with great staying power and a beautiful plum shade that would flatter most skin tones. I am wearing this one here:
And now the queen bee of purple plum shades, MAC’s Rebel lipstick. This is actually one of the brightest of all my favourite berry shades. A hint of raspberry makes this one very eye catching and I prefer it for the evenings. As a Satin finish, its not the most long lasting of all the options out there but a great choice if you are a fan of traditional lipstick formulas. I’m wearing this one here:
And lastly, an oldie but a goodie, Revlon’s Black Cherry. This colour gets me every time. Shade wise it is everything I look for in a berry; a warm plum with a hint of brown making it really flattering if you amp up the bronzer. One of Hey Claire’s favourites and certainly one of mine! If only the formula lasted a little longer!
So tell me then guys, what are your favourite berry shades?
