Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera

If you saw my recent What I Got For My Birthday post you’ll know that Josh very kindly brought me a lip product I’ve lusted after for many years; the Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera. Whilst this colour might scream summer, I couldn’t wait to review it for you guys, so I’ve cracked into it a season early and here are my thoughts…

The first thing I’d like to say it that I’m totally in love with this packaging, it’s chic, slim and stylish. The small chrome coloured bullet of colour is just as expensive feeling in real life as the photos.

I also absolutely love the applicator, the short wand is perfect for precision application. And that doe foot, blend sponge lets the colour glide streak-free onto every lip contour, creating a crisp lip edge.

Riviera is such a stunning colour, a vibrant red-toned orange. I can’t wait to wear this with a boho white dress in the summer, hair in long textured waves and a slick of golden shadow across the lids.

But on to the formula which is the really important part. In the past I have used a lot of liquid lipsticks that have been very drying and flakey, but I am so glad to say that this formula is comfortable and non-drying for up to eight hours on my lips. Hourglass say that Riviera should have a fourteen hour wear, yet I’ve found it normally lasts perfectly for about six hours without any fading or flaking – after that things can get a little messy.

When applying the liquid lipstick it’s obvious from first applicator stroke that the formula is extremely opaque and pigmented. Riviera has a smooth, mouse-like texture when wet and stays tacky on the lips for about two minutes after application and is easily buildable too. I like to apply a light layer, wait for that to dry and then apply another very thin coat to ensure lasting power. If you’re looking for comfortable matte colour then look no further!

If there’s one word I would use to describe Hourglass products it would be quality. Quality packaging, wear time, formula and ingredients. Riviera doesn’t let the brand down in that department at all, there’s even skin conditioning emollients to nourish lips during wear and antioxidant berry extracts to help heal and protect lips throughout the day.

I love every Hourglass product I’ve ever owned and this silky smooth, modern matte lip has gone straight to the top of my makeup bag – I’m having to hold off wearing it everyday, maybe it’s a bit much to wear to the office?!
