Today’s my birthday, so to celebrate me reaching the grand old age of 23 I thought I’d share what makeup I’ll be wearing. I’m not doing anything too crazy for my birthday, just having a little get together with my fiends the evening before and then going to dinner on my actual birthday with my family.

Makeup wise I’m keeping things pretty simple and relaxed. I’m going for an easy smokey eye (because no one’s got time to excessively blend eyeshadow on their birthday) and fresh, dewy skin. As my birthday is in March I always use it as an excuse to go full on Spring with makeup – is anyone else dying for this naff winter to be over?!

Let’s get into the look then shall we?…

Birthday Skincare

I started my look with some moisturising skincare to give me the perfect base for a dewy skin look. I used a hefty amount of my Avène Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum, topped off with my moisturiser of the moment: The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream.

For my base I mixed together a little concoction to get the perfect look. First I added a dollop of the Vichy Dermablend Corrective Foundation (full review here) because it has unbeatable staying power and I didn’t want to worry about my makeup disappearing half way through the day. I then added a pump of my Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation With Comfort Serum because I’m trying it out at the moment and like the fresh look it gives my skin. I then mixed in another Rimmel product for extra glow, the Good to Glow Highlighter in Soho Glow.

Mixing Foundations

For concealer I reached for my new favourite, the Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer (full review here) to add a bit of highlight to my face. For spot concealing I used my Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer because of it’s high coverage and perfect match. For under my eyes I went with a touch of step two of my Charlotte Tilbury Mini Miracle Eye Wand (full review here).

As I was saying earlier, I love to gear my makeup towards Spring trends for my birthday, so this year I decided to use cream products on the cheeks and so for a bit of bronzey warmth I moved on to my Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel. I added this around the perimeters of my face and blended out with my Real Techniques Contour Brush.Chanel

To set my base in place I went for my BareMinerals Mineral Veil and for my brows I used the Anastasia DipBrow Pomade with my Nanshy Precise Bent Eyeliner EB01 Eye Makeup Brush.

Then onto the eyes…I wanted something quite simple and long-lasting so I started out with my Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadow in Copper. I blended the base all over my lids and buffed the edges out with a brush, then moved onto the eyeshadows from my Estée Lauder Pure Color Five Colour Eyeshadow Palette in 07 Surreal Skies and YSL Couture Palette Rock Sequins Edition palette.Cream Shadow DSC_0523 DSC_0482

First I used a whole lot of shadows from the Estée Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow Palette to give me a super shimmery, golden smokey eye. I then dipped into the middle matte black shade in my YSL Couture Palette Rock Sequins Edition palette to add depth on the outer corner of my eye.

As it’s my birthday I was going to wear false eyelashes but I decided when I start down to actually do my makeup that putting the on was too much faff (something that’s happening to me more and more – maybe it’s my age?!). So I just went for lashings and lashings of mascara instead! I started with a sample of the Benefit They’re Real! Tinted Mascara Primer and I can honestly say I really didn’t like this product. It seemed too dry to actually help volumize the lashes and I didn’t see the point in it being tinted brown – just a bit of a ‘blah’ product for me! So I built volume and length on the lashes with my Maybelline Volum’ Express the Falsies Big Eyes Mascara.

For the finishing touches to my makeup I popped some No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter on the high points of my face to add a glow.

Cream Highlighter

And in keeping with the cream products, I dug out one of my Bourjois 12 Hour Aqua Blush (full review & swatches here) in Cocori Corail and bounced it onto my face with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge to blend the cooling, soft colour into my base.

And finally my lips: I lined them with Rimmel’s Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner Definer in 018 Addiction. For lipstick I popped on my YSL Rouge Volupté in #9 Rose Stiletto. I finished off the look with a light layer of L’Oreal Paris Infallible Mega Gloss in 103 Protest Queen.
