Made From Beauty The Big Beauty Clear Out: Mascara

I love having a huge clear out at the beginning of the year and this year I had to start with my beauty stash. Over the past year my makeup, skincare, bodycare, nail product and haircare collection has got a little out of control. Being a new blogger, I seem to be hoarding beauty products ‘just in case’ I need them for a blog post. But…I’ve made it my mission over the past week to do a Big Beauty Clear Out and today I’m starting with mascaras.

I think most of us know that you should replace your mascara after three months to avoid bacteria breading in the tube, so maybe that can be my excuse for having so many in collection I don’t use! DISCLAIMER: There are mascaras in this post that are so old it’ll shock you!

The Rimmel London Wonder’Full Wake Me Up

Made From Beauty Rimmel London Wonder'Full Wake Me Up Mascara

If you read my review of this mascara, you’ll know I hated it. I love the idea behind this range from Rimmel; makeup making you appear more awake, brighter and healthier, and the other products I’ve tried from this range I love, but this product…no. I couldn’t get behind the cucumber scent, the awkward wand, the poor staying power. I’m honestly not sad to see this go.

The Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes

Made From Beauty Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes Mascara

This was the first Lancome mascara I’ve ever tried and I absolutely loved it. Lancome are famous in the beauty world for their mascara and with two sold every second worldwide they are truly the undisputed brand to go to for this product. The Hypnose Doll Eyes mascara has the perfect cone shaped wand to get into the inner corners of the eye, giving you that fanned out ‘doll’ look. On me, this mascara stayed in place all day long, with very black and a pleasure to use. I will point out that it is rose scented, which although I hated the cucumber scent in the Rimmel Wake Me Up, I actually didn’t mind.

The L’Oréal Mega Volume Miss Manga in Black and PurpleMade From Beauty The L'Oreal Mega Volume Miss Manga Mascara in Black

Made From Beauty The L'Oreal Mega Volume Miss Manga Mascara in Purple

Probably my favourite mascara in the world. Big claims people. Big claims. I reach for the Miss Manga mascara in black everyday, so I’m sad to be letting this one go, but it was really time for a replacement. The L’Oréal Mega Volume Miss Manga Purple shade was released spring last year and fun fact: I brought it by mistake. I then opened it and applied it without realising! So…it’s safe to say that this shade has the same great formula as the black, but not a whole lotta colour when applied – just not my thing. You can read my full review of these mascaras here.

The L’Oréal Miss Manga Punky

Made From Beauty L'Oréal Paris Mega Volume Miss Manga Punky Mascara

Whilst you’re over at my review of the Miss Manga original formula review, take a peak at what I thought about the Miss Manga Punky. I’m still in two minds about this one, but I didn’t reach for it enough and it was past its best, so probably won’t be repurchasing this one.

The L’Oréal Telescopic in Extra Black

Made From Beauty The L'Oréal Telescopic in Extra Black Mascara

Which is so old, it’s now called Carbon Black. Don’t panic, I haven’t used it for a very, very long time, but I’m ashamed to say that it’s been in my collection for probably a year or more. It’s a classic example of a product cluttering up my collection ‘just in case’ I needed to do a comparison post. From what I can remember I liked this one, was good for length but not great for volume.

The Max Factor False Lash Effect in Waterproof

Made From Beauty The Max Factor False Lash Effect in Waterproof Mascara

This mascara has to be one of the most talked about in the beauty industry. I picked mine up about six months ago, the writing came off in about a week which made me not want to use it all that often and so I completely forgot about it. I wasn’t wowed by this formula, it is long lasting but I found it flaked a little on me. The most concerning thing was that when I opened up the tube to photograph it for this post, some of the bristles had actually fallen off the wand?!

Soap & Glory Thick And Fast

Made From Beauty Soap And Glory Thick And Fast Mascara

I’m a huge fan of Soap & Glory makeup, there hasn’t been a single product I’ve tried from them that I didn’t love, with the Thick and Fast Mascara being no exception. I loved the volume it gave me, the long lasting staying power and the fact that it was ultra black. Big fan of this one and can myself repurchasing it again.

The Bourjois Volume Glamour Max Holidays

Made From Beauty The Bourjois Volume Glamour Max Holidays Mascara

This cute little tube came free as part of a gift close to Christmas with Bourjois makeup. I’ve never really tried a mascara from the brand so it was great to get the chance to for free. I loved the volume this gave me (which you’d hope considering the name) but it also gave good length. The reason why I’m ditching this product though is that it transfers slightly onto my lids. I struggle with mascara transfer quite a bit, so this is not to say its a bad product, just didn’t work for me.

The L’Oreal Volume Millions Feline Lash

Made From Beauty The L'Oreal Volume Millions Feline Lash Mascara

My review of the L’Oreal Volume Millions Feline Lash made it into my Top Five Posts in 2015 on Made From Beauty, so I’ll save you the nitty gritty – head over to the review for detailed pictures (before, 1st coat, 2nd coat and 3rd coat). I was however a bit annoyed to find that when I last went to use this mascara the packaging broke. The part that takes off excess product from the wand just popped straight out so all a bit of a clumpy mess.

Are there any mascaras in your collection you will be waving goodbye to soon? Why not share a mini review in the comments!
