DSC_0054As a blogger, sometimes you buy a makeup item, and it works so seamlessly into your makeup bag, you forget to share it with your readers. Well, that’s what happened to me at least with the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipsticks.

I’ve had three of these lipsticks for a while now, and I’ve only just made my way round to photographing them. The creamy matte formula has become a bit of an everyday staple for my lip routine, I had totally forgotten to pop a post up on them.

That’s not to say they aren’t special. If anything, these lipsticks are actually something really really special in my books. For a drugstore brand, Maybelline have brought us the most fantastic formulation for the best possible price.

In the UK especially, it had been very hard to find a long wearing, kick ass, matte lipstick without going to MAC. And hey, I love MAC as much as the next beauty blogger, but I’ve always craved a great matte lipstick from the highstreet.

Unlike, the few matte formulations available from other drugstore brands, the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes are creamy, easy to wear, and dreamy to apply. There’s no dragging, or catching on dry patches. There’s no uneven wear, or blotchy application – there’s just pure, highly pigmented, matte perfection.

The shades I’ve tried from the range are Craving Coral; a beautiful red/orange that perks up the complexion and makes a statement, Mesmerizing Magenta; a bright pink that’s perfect for the evening with lots of lashings of mascara or to set off a tan perfectly in the summer, and Divine Wine; the colour everyone’s talking about – you know the one, Autumn in a lipstick.

Overall I’m hugely impressed with the formula, creamy and comfortable, yet matte and stylish at the same time. Work the lipsticks little by little into to lips, creating two layers for a matte pout that will last all day, no touch ups, no fuss.

In the UK, we’ve been a little let down with the shade selection, with some of the nude shades of the collection proving very difficult to get hold of. But really, that’s ok with me, when I go for a matte lip, it’s usually in a bright colour as they are generally easier to manage and pack more punch.

I’m not going to say the word ‘dupe’ here, but I would say these lipsticks are pretty similar to the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipsticks. So if you’ve been wanting to try out Charlottes hugely hyped formula, if suggest giving these a whirl first.

At this price point, Maybelline are truly bringing a ground breaking formula to the table. So have you tried the Creamy Matte Lipsticks? If so, what shades did you pick up? And were you as impressed as I was? Let me know in the comments below.
