London Fashion Weekend Part Two CoverI’ve never been to London Fashion Week, but boy do I want to. I think sitting in that catwalk show for the first time will be my way of knowing I’ve made it. So, in the meantime, there’s London Fashion Weekend.

DSC_0063Although closely linked with fashion week, the weekend event is very different – mainly as its a season behind. So although designers presented their Spring 2016 looks at Fashion Week, Fashion Weekend focused around Autumn 2015.

Fashion Weekend is also a huge shopping event, the Saatchi Gallery had rooms and rooms full of beautiful, ready to wear trend pieces, accessories, jewelry, and classic designer pieces from the likes of Dolce and Gabbana and Burberry.

I loved looking at all the beautiful pieces on offer (often for very discounted prices) as well as trying on some of the gorgeous accessories – for me it was a treat to just hold a Celine bag!

On Sunday I attended the Christopher Raeburn show. In the third row I was completely in awe of the designs. Raeburn used bright oranges, navy’s and shark prints to bring a collection of varying silhouettes, all set off with the classic Ugg Boot – is it time to bring them out again?

I also attended two industry talks (which for the price of the ticket were worth it alone!) from Maybelline New York and a blogging panel featuring Alex from The Frugality, Naomi from The Lifestyle Edit and Erica from The Edited. I’ll be posting a separate post soon all about the blogging panel, as its just too much to fit in here, but here’s the notes I took from Maybelline:

On the nails we are seeing 70s colours like terracotta. There’s a resurgence of the French manicure with coloured tips. And negative space in the manicure is the hottest trend this season (I might try this out soon and post about it!)

With makeup we are seeing tonal colours all over the face, again keeping with the 70s vibe. And, as it has been for the past few seasons, the subtle contour is the only way to add shape to the face. Mattes pigments are big news. They also encouraged us to use bronzers and lipsticks on the eye for a play on textures and the easy-peasy route to tonal makeup.

We are also seeing a move away from strong brows to fluffier shapes. Use ash colours smudges behind the hairs for a sophisticated brow.

There’s nothing like a little expensive skin – so spend money on skincare to get the best possible start. Naows the time to concentrate on making skin look healthy with illuminators and fluid foundations. Remember that foundation is to balance the tones of skin rather than to conceal. Place powder only where you need it, avoiding the high points of the face.

And finally, designers can’t get enough of alternative eyeliner. Do start smudging it along the lower lashline and wearing it in the waterline, to create grungy eyes, with smoked-out tonal colours. Top liners with lipgloss for a truly trendy look.

I will definitely be going to London Fashion Weekend again next year, I loved the whole day! Have you ever been to something like this event? And what do you think of Maybelline’s trend advice? Let me know in the comments below!
