My Current Base Routine

I have a little confession. I’ve been lazy recently.

If you have read my Spoilt For Choice post, you will know that I often change up my base to give me a different finish almost everyday of the week. I am like a kid in a candy shop when it comes to foundations, I really am! All those pretty little glass bottles full of different formulas and brightening colours.

But recently, I have been sticking to the best of the best for base, only missing up my blush on the regular. So without further do here is my current base routine:

I start out with the Bourjois Happy Light Luminous Serum Primer. This illuminating, pink toned base, really brightens and adds light to the face. Sometimes I find primers like this don’t really add a glow through my foundation but when used in conjunction with the following foundation, the glowiness is really amped up!

Bourjois Paris Happy Light Luminous Serum PrimerSo the foundation I have been using day to day is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation. Providing light to medium coverage, this is all I need from day to day. I am in love with the texture of this foundation, its light gel –like feel is almost cooling to apply and gives the illusion of plumper, youthful skin. I would recommend this to anyone, apart from oily skin types. This might be a bit rich for oily skins because of the gel texture, but if you have mature skin this might just be the foundation you’ve been looking for. The other thing about this product is it really doesn’t seem like an affordable foundation, it applies, wears and smells like a highend base.Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel foundation

Next up is concealer and if I’m honest this is the step I am most fickle about. I have a tendency to switch these up a bit as I still haven’t found a formula that I really love. At the moment I am using the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer, which is very good, and so near to perfect. I just wish there were more colours in the range.maybelline instant age rewind under eye concealer

One extra thing I like to add into my base routine on the regular is liquid highlighters. If you read my YSL post here then you will know I love this sort of pen-highlighter in a brightening shade. I also use the Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Eye Cream Colour Correction pretty often to get that really highlighted look and for night I switch it up and so straight up yellow with the MAC Prep & Prime in Light Boost. I like to use these highlighters under the eye in a triangle like shape to give me a lift and around my mouth as I have some darkness there.Twist up Highlighters

Then last but not least, powder. A firm favourite of mine (as you can read about here) is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light for its ability to set makeup whilst still keeping a glowing finish. I do however, like to use a more traditional setting powder for the centre of the face. I had been using the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder (Can you tell I like Bourjois face products) but after my second one broke I refuse to by another. The powder isn’t a cheapy product and so I don’t expect the pans of product to just fall out, smashing on the floor of the bus once, much to my embarrassment! So, as much as I really like that powder, I refuse to give up my hard earned money to a company that simply cant use a glue gun! So I have moved on, to the L’Oreal Paris Nude Magique BB Powder. I find that this powder is amazing for really smoothing over pores and fine lines. It has an almost blurring ability, able to glide over any blemish or imperfection and just adding a hint of coverage, whilst smoothing the skin.Powders Closed Powders Open

And that is it for my current base routine! If you want to know what blushers and bronzers I have been using recently, you’ll have to wait for my upcoming post…oh such a tease!

Is my routine similar to your current base routine, or different? I’d love to know what you guys are using, so let me know in the comments below.
