Three Easy Work HairstylesWhen you’re running late, your hair’s a little dirty and its 6.00am, the last thing you want to worry about is washing and blow-drying your hair, am I right? I know my frizzy, wild hair is not something I want to be messing about with at 6.00 in the morning, so I have a few hairstyles I turn to. Today I’m going to share with you three easy hairstyles that you won’t mind doing when you’re half asleep! Me long hair These styles will work for mid to long length hair and look especially good on highlighted hair. As I wear my hair curled or wavy throughout the week anyway I’m starting with some curls in my hair. If you want to know what I use to create these loose curls check out my post here.

First up is the Half Up, Half Down Do.

This one I crack out when my hairs at that still-socially-acceptable-dirty kind of dirty, you know, second day hair.

  1. I am starting with a middle parting and, first things first; I go ahead and separate a medium sized section from the top of my head starting at my parting, at the front of my hair.
  2. Hairstyle One 1I then create a normal three strand braid to about half way down the section and secure with a bobby pin and repeat of the other side. You can go ahead and fan out the braid by gently pulling the strands apart if you want a fuller braid. If you would like a more textured braid like me you can always spray these sections with a little texturising spray; I am using the Charles Worthington Volume & Bounce Texturising Spray, and rough it up a bit.

This is a great style for dirty hair, the dirtier your hair the more it will hold. I like to use this style to get all my hair out of my face when I have a long day of work ahead of me.

  1. With a centre parting again first up, you want to section those front pieces like we did for the first style again. Just let those ones hang there for a while, we will be sorting them out in a moment.DSC_0154
  2. Next is just put your hair into a ponytail. It honestly doesn’t matter about the positioning of your ponytail; I like mine sort of high. You can make it sleek with a brush if you like, but I think this style looks great if you make this part pretty messy. So I’m going to go in and lightly backcomb a few pieces on the top on my head before I rake my hair back with my fingers into my hairband. Make sure you secure things tightly back there, that way your style will last all day.DSC_0177DSC_0200
  3. When you have your ponytail, take those front sections and just twist them towards the back of your head. And pin right under your ponytail.DSC_0217DSC_0226
  4. And here’s when things get fun. We are going to create a messy bun here. As my hair is curled I am just going to work on twisting and pinning medium sized section around the base of the ponytail, hiding the hair band. Keep pinning and twisting until all your hair is secured up and your happy with the shape, the messier the better. Make sure to twist in the ends of those front sections to your bun. If you are working with straight hair you could twist your hair firmly around the base of the ponytail and pin in place to create a sleeker look.DSC_0241DSC_0242
  5. I am also adding a little texturising spray to the hair,, but you could also use dry shampoo, something like the COLAB dry shampoo would work great as well at adding volume and texture to this part.DSC_0246

And you’ve go the second style down!DSC_0262

Finally the Side Braid.

This is a style I use when my hair is pretty dirty, or has some product build up from other styles I have been doing and works best on long hair.

  1. You want to start out with a side parting for this one and decide which side you want your braid to be on. I like to gently backcomb the opposite side to my braid side to give a little extra volume.DSC_0265DSC_0271
  2. Now is when you can get creative, you can either go with a fishtail braid, theres a great tutorial here if you don’t know how to do one, or a regular three strand braid like me.DSC_0282
  3. I secure mine with a small clear elastic and then hide the band. I do this by taking a small section of the hair at the end of the braid, twist it around and then tuck the end of that piece into the band.DSC_0284 DSC_0290
  4. Try playing with the braid and make it look however you want, you can have a tight braid or loose braid, you can mess it up, or brush your hair before to create a sleek look.DSC_0298
  5. Finally I also add some bobby pins into my hair at the back of my head to make sure its completely secure and this might be something you’ll have to do if you layers in your hair.

And you’re done!DSC_0300 DSC_0306
